Keto diets are a hot topic in the fitness community these days and for good reason. They’re a time-tested and scientifically-backed way to manage your lifestyle and nutrition goals, boost various health outcomes and stay satiated all at the same time. But what if you’re feeling lazy about prepping keto meal plans? Then, lazy keto meal plan is exactly for you.

There’s no denying that keto is more restrictive than many diet options out there. Some of us prefer to find a middle ground with a diet that offers many of the same benefits as a full-on keto diet while being slightly more accommodating to different lifestyles. This approach has been dubbed the “lazy keto diet”.

Beginner Lazy Keto Meal Plan: Everything You Need to Know

Also called a “dirty keto meal plan”, lazy keto diets are a simplified version of the standard ketogenic diet.

A typical keto diet will be built around achieving these macronutrient ratios:

  • 5-10% Carbohydrates
  • 30-35% Protein
  • 55-60% Fats

By limiting carbohydrates to roughly 50 grams per day, our bodies enter ketosis and begin burning fats as its primary fuel source instead of carbohydrates. This type of fat metabolism produces the oft-cited health benefits of keto and is the key difference between keto diets and other meal plans.

So, How Do Lazy Dirty Keto Meal Plans Differ?

With lazy keto, all you have to do is track your carbohydrate intake. You won’t be measuring proteins and fats. As long as you’re taking in no more than 10% of your daily calories from carbohydrates, you’re achieving the lazy keto meal plan.

Essentially, this approach lets you reap the benefits of ketogenic diets without forcing you to religiously track every food you put into your body. Of course, if one of your goals is to lose weight, you’ll still need to ensure you’re burning more calories than you’re taking in -- which is why it’s crucial to know what you’re putting in your body.

The easiest way to achieve all of these goals without the effort of daily meal prep is to use easy keto recipes and keto-friendly pre-made meals. Armed with these resources, you might be surprised at how easy it is to follow this regimen.

Why it’s Still Hard to Stick to Dirty Lazy Keto Meal Plan

It’s keto, it’s steak and, oh, you didn’t have to cook it. Check out more keto recipes here.

Although lazy keto is super easy to manage compared with conventional keto diet plans, it’s still a ketogenic diet – meaning that you’ll still have multiple nutrition goals to manage:

  • Ensuring that carbohydrates are limited to 10% of total intake
  • Coming up with regular meal plans day after day to keep things interesting
  • Finding high-quality ingredients that don’t just fit your macros, but give you the energy and nutrition needed to sustain a healthy lifestyle
  • Spending time each day cooking up meals rather than relying on take-out or delivery

In other words, though this form of keto is called “lazy”, there’s nothing lazy about sticking to the plan.

You’ll still need to make it through those early transition stages (the dreaded “keto flu”), manage your daily food intake, and ensure that you’re giving your body what it needs to ensure you don’t get frustrated, toss up your hands with the whole process, and hit the nearest burger stand.

Pre-Made Meal Kits Do the Hard Work for You

Although it’s certainly tough to make it through the Keto Flu stages of ketogenic eating plans, once your body has successfully transitioned into ketosis, you’re good to go.

At that point, the hard part becomes meal planning every day, prepping recipes, and maintaining a variety of high-quality foods in your diet. (And if you’re eating with others – making sure that they have grub that fits their lifestyle without forcing them to adhere to your keto goals!)

Pre-Made Meal Kits Can Be the Perfect Solution to These Problems

When you have a meal kit subscription, all the hard work of meal planning and preparation is done for you. Meals are planned in advance for you and arrive fully cooked in stay-fresh packaging. All you have to do is heat it up and dinnertime is covered – no need for a pricey Instant Pot or running a slow cooker all day.

This makes any type of meal plan easier to stick to, but it’s particularly helpful for those more restrictive types like keto. Most people who attempt keto long-term get bored with their limited food options (keto chicken salad again?) and end up cheating here and there.

The problem with cheating on keto is that even one day of excessive carbohydrate intake can kick you out of ketosis, requiring you to go through the multi-day transition process again. This isn’t ideal for anyone. You deserve variety in your keto recipes that keep you excited about your daily keto meal plans.
